Basketball Clinic at Falls Church High
The boys’ varsity basketball program of Falls Church High School will host a basketball clinic for rising fourth through 10th graders from July 30 – August 3. This week-long clinic will run daily from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will take place at Luther Jackson Middle School. Area July 4th Festivities
Falls Church – George Mason High School (7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church). Come early to check out the live music at 7 p.m. The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.
Fairfax – 4th of July Independence Day Evening Celebrations. Taking place in historic downtown Fairfax, the celebration kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m.. There will then be an Evening Show featuring a fireworks display after dark in addition to musical entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Entertainment and children's activities are free.
Herndon – Herndon Community Center (814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon, Va.). The all-day affair features sack races, jugglers, clowns, Bingo, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, and a community-wide kickball game. The celebration is capped off with a fireworks display choreographed to music that begins at 9:30 p.m..
McLean – Features music, food, games, face-painting, tattoos, and, of course, fireworks. Many of the festivities will take place at the McLean Community Center at Langley High School (6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean). Fireworks begin at dark.
Sterling – Ol' Fashioned Family 4th of July. Located at Claude Moore Park's historic area (21544 Old Vestal's Gap Rd., Sterling, Va.), the celebration includes games, crafts, pony and hay rides, musical entertainment, food from vendors, and a reptile show.
Washington, D.C.
Independence Day Parade. From Constitution Ave. and 7th to 17th Sts., D.C. Begins at 11:45 a.m., and features military units, floats, VIPs and marching bands.
Independence Day at the National Archives (Constitution Ave. between 7th and 9th Sts. NW, D.C.). Features special family programming from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Smithsonian Folklife Festival. National Mall in D.C. From 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
A Capitol Fourth Concert. West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol (D.C.). Admittance begins at 5 p.m., the concert runs from 8 – 9:30 p.m. Features the National Symphony Orchestra as well as several pop artists. Concert is free and open to public. No tickets required.
Fireworks on the National Mall. Show begins at dark.

Seliskar Sets Boys Freestyle Record
With a time of 30.29, Andrew Seliskar of McLean pool set the 9-10 year-old boys 50-m freestyle record for the NVSL. He broke the previous-best time of 30.88 set in 2005 by Phillip Hu of Mosby Woods.
