Smithsonian Kite Festival, March 31 at 10 a.m. at the Washington Monument

I know you’ve been loving the weather recently. Despite the recent cool-off, it’s still plenty nice out and you should definitely spend some of your time enjoying it. With clear skies forecasted, Saturday’s 41st Annual Smithsonian Kite Festival looks to be a hit. Held on the National Mall at the Washington Monument, the festival will feature hundreds of kites and flyers, showing off their colorful creations. This year’s Japanese-themed festival will feature three competitions: a handmade kite competition, the Hot Tricks competition and the popular Rokkaku kite battle. But don’t worry if the closest you’ve come to kite flying is when you watched “Marry Poppins.” There will be “hands-on” activities led by reps from kite organizations where you can learn about kite flying, kite making, the history of kites and more. The festival begins at 10 a.m. and runs throughout the day, with the closing awards ceremony beginning at 4 p.m.
