The Arlington Pop Warner Hawks PeeWee Division 1 Football Team (8-1) took one step closer to a chance at playing in a national championship game after a 26-6 victory against the North Carolina Mountaineers of Kings Mountain on November 11.
The team, comprised of approximately 20 12 year-olds will travel to the Mid South Regional Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina for a weigh-in on Thanksgiving Day before their game on Saturday, November 25. The Hawks will earn a national championship bid if they can beat Coal Oak Steelers of North Carolina for the Regional Championship.
Sponsored by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. 64 teams compete annually for National Championships in four different age/weight ranges in the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. In order to advance to the Pop Warner Super Bowl, a team must win its respective League Championship, as well as the Regional Championship.
In addition to tough practices and game schedules, the Pop Warner league is the only youth sporting league in the nation that requires scholastic aptitude to participate. If the Hawks advance to the national championship game they will have to undergo extensive fundraising to send their team to the Walt Disney World Stadium.
