Falls Church Now Accepting Housing Grant Applications

by SeoJin Ahn

Falls Church City’s Housing and Human Services department is now accepting applications for two U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development – the Community Development Block Grant and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program. Applications are due by Monday, Sept. 19. Applications will be considered during public hearings held by the Housing Commission in October, with final grant awards scheduled to be awarded in November.

The funds are available to any public agencies and nonprofit organizations that work to aid low-moderate income households in the City to use for housing development, rental assistance, social services, economic development, and public services. Past funded projects have included home repair, rental assistance to prevent homelessness, rehabilitation of housing developments, and more.

The Community Development Block Grant is an annual grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide activities and services to benefit communities like Falls Church. The City of Falls Church will receive around $55,000 of Community Development Block Grant funds through an agreement with Arlington County. These competitively awarded funds will be used towards public services, housing rehabilitation, homebuyer assistance, and economic development.

HOME is also an annual grant that allows the City to carry out a variety of housing activities. This year, the City will receive approximately $20,000 through an agreement with Arlington County. These funds will be given to public agencies and nonprofit organizations for rental assistance to income eligible households. For more information or to apply, visit fallschurchva.gov/HHS.
