Wilbur Andres Velarde, an 18-year-old resident of the Little City, earned the Eagle Scout Award, which was presented to him at a ceremony on Aug. 9 at the Falls Church Episcopal Historic Chapel.

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest advancement award offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Velarde chose to organize a donation drive where he collected books, clothing and movies to send to Hamburg, Germany’s Deutsche Seemansmission (German Mission to Seafarers) for delivery to sailors from around the world who utilized that center while their ships were docked in Hamburg. Friends, family and scout leaders of Velarde, as well as his parents Wilbur and Melinda Velarde and his sister Bethany Velarde, were in attendance.
