The Oakcrest School varsity basketball team fell short of victory in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference (PVAC) finals late last month, losing 49-46 to Covenant Life School at American University.

Oakcrest, an all-girls independent Catholic School for grades 6 - 12, rallied in the fourth quarter, to bring the game within a point.

Despite the loss, the girls team finished in first place in the South Division, with a PVAC record of 14-2 and an overall season record of 15-6.

Senior co-captain Eileen Kuzma led all Oakcrest's scoring with 21 points, five steals and four rebounds. Fellow co-captain and senior Therese Franco added 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.

In addition, juniors Alessandra Christiani and Elise McNall contributed five points each, and McNall grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior Tori Jensen had four points and eight rebounds.

Kuzma was named the Player of the Year for the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference.
