The City of Falls Church is developing a Pedestrian, Bicycle and Traffic Calming Strategic Implementation Plan, officials announced today. Earlier this year, the City hosted an interactive online tool to receive citizen input for this plan.

The results have been tallied and summarized. Data collection is expected to be completed by the end of this year. To view the results, click here. City officials reported today the plan will create a well-connected walkway system, afford accessibility for all pedestrians, provide safe streets and crossings, promote a culture of walking and biking, identify continuous sustained funding, tools and leadership for implementing  pedestrian and bicycle.

The final deliverables for the project will include a Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Traffic Calming Strategic Implementation Plan, an American With Disabilities Act Compliance Plan and a Safe Routes to School Plan. Two citizen advisory groups – the Pedestrian Bicycle Traffic Calming Committee and the Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee – are working City staff on this project. Plan phases include community engagement, research and document review, collection and consolidation of data, data analysis, plan recommendations and long-term strategic measures.

Residents are invited to become involved by attending community meetings to “learn about project status and to provide comments.” Information on future public meetings will be posted on the City website as soon as it becomes available.
