New Date Set for March 27After two blizzards canceled previous dates, Falls Church-based Compassion for Animals announced that its Vegan Bake Sale for Haiti is "back on." The new date for the bake sale will be from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the same planned location, the Falls Plaza Giant at 1230 W. Broad St. in Falls Church. Compassion for Animals is teaming up with Metro-area DC Vegan and local volunteers to bake all-vegan, homemade cookies, muffins, banana bread, cinnamon rolls and cheesecakes. Falls Church bakery and café Natalia's Elegant Creations is also chipping in with vegan cupcakes and gluten-free chocolate–peanut butter bars. All proceeds are going to Food For Life, the world's largest vegan food relief organization, which has over 830 million meals worldwide since 1974, according to Compassion for Animals organizer Gary Loewenthal. Food For Life is currently providing vegan meals to Haitians affected by the recent earthquake. "We decided the March date to give our bakers some time, and to avoid any more potential snow problems," said Loewenthal.
