Monday, February 08 2010 04:47:33 PM

Falls Church City Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 9, it was announced this afternoon. In addition, daycare, after school programs and all other school activities are cancelled.

Because the F.C. City Public Schools have exceeded the four snow days built into the school calendar, previously designated school holidays will be used as "make-up" school days. The two make-up days are Monday, February 15 (President's Day), and Monday, April 12 (Professional Day).

City government offices, Mary Riley Styles Library and the Community Center will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with unscheduled leave policy for employees.

GEORGE bus service is also cancelled Tuesday. City trash and recycling will be picked up as scheduled.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Warning for the D.C. area from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon where accumulations of 10 to 20 inches are possible.

The snow is expected to start around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Tuesday and end by late Wednesday afternoon.

The City Council will meet in closed session tonight on water litigation and the regular Feb. 8 agenda items are postponed until Feb. 22.

City government service updates will be announced tomorrow as necessary.
