City of Falls Church Officials Urge Citizens to Remain Off Roads as Clean-Up Continues With Storm Over Print E-mail
Saturday, February 06 2010 18:33

With the cessation of the snowing at 6 p.m. today, City of Falls Church officials issued a public statement urging citizens to remain off the roads while City crews continue working overtime to clear the main arteries through the City and prepare to clear side roads over the course of the next two days. F.C. Public Information Officer Barbara Gordon also urged citizens to remain patient through the clean-up effort, noting the monumental task that has faced City crews since early Friday.

Gordon also urged citizens to clear the snow away from fire hydrants near their homes so they are visible and accessible in the event of an emergency. Residents are also urged to clear a way to mailboxes for postal crews next week.

The Community Center and library will remain closed Sunday, and decisions will be made on school and government openings tomorrow, she said. GEORGE bus service and special pick-ups have already been cancelled for Monday. As of 5 p.m. today, power was restored to "most if not all" City residences. A full City staff conference call will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, and more City announcements will issue from that.
