Police Should Act to Deter Dangerous Cycling

Why can't the police do something about the bicyclists who commonly flout traffic laws especially around the East Falls Church Metro stop?

Just today, a cyclist flew through a red light at the corner of Lee Highway and Broad St. and then without signaling drifted into my lane after I went through on the green.

I see this type of behavior all the time. If a motorist had acted this way, he or she would've been pulled over immediately and ticketed heavily. Yet cyclists go free.

So much accommodation and public money is spent on providing bicyclists with bike paths and ensuring they can safely share the road with motorists. Why then are they allowed to ignore traffic laws and engage in dangerous behavior unchecked by the authorities?

With all of the news chat about Falls Church being a pass-through on the way to Tyson's Corner I would beg to differ.  I was instantly welcomed when I opened up Stifel & Capra.  I found all of the folks at City Hall accessible and knowledgeable to facilitate my move into The Little City.  Our loyal customers have followed us from our small spot across from the Farmer's Market to our new historic home on Broad Street.  When we announced our third anniversary celebrations. I even received "Happy Birthday" cards and emails!  Our clientele comes from not just the City but Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Fairfax and beyond.  I feel as Falls Church works hard to attract more retail and restaurants it will become more of a destination for not just City residents but our neighbors in around the metro area.
