Over 150 close friends and well-wishers of the Falls Church News-Press and its founder-owner Nicholas F. Benton crowded into the News-Press’ office last Thursday to celebrate the weekly newspaper’s 1,000th consecutive edition.

A cousin of the 19-year-old Falls Church woman murdered last month described herself Monday as a “wreck” who’s been playing detective from her Norwalk, Conn. home while the stabbing of her relative, Vanessa Pham, goes unsolved by Fairfax County police.

In 4-3 Vote, F.C. Council Rejects Move To Kill Senior Affordable Housing Project

After a four hour special Falls Church City Council meeting tonight, The Wilden still lives. An effort to kill it with a motion to deny the partners seeking to develop the 63-unit senior affordable housing project a modification of the terms of an earlier approval from the Council failed by a 4-3 vote after 11 p.m tonight.

Falls Church Housing Corp. Chief Answers Doubts About Wilden Project Modification

In an exclusive interview with the News-Press tonight, Carol Jackson, executive director of the non-profit Falls Church Housing Corporation (FCHC), addressed the major concerns being raised by some F.C. City Council members over the FCHC's request for a minor modification in the terms of use of a $2 million City loan. The request will be considered at a special meeting of the Council Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Council chambers at City Hall.

Wilden Senior Housing Project Suddenly Up for Grabs in F.C. Once Again

Just when it looked like the City of Falls Church was finally going to push ahead with a senior affordable housing project, securing a 6-1 approval from the City Council just a few months ago, the fate of the Wilden House project is once again hanging in the balance. A special meeting of the F.C. City Council has been called for this Thursday night to determine whether or not an amendment to the agreement from the spring will be permitted.

F.C. 'Photo Red Light' Operation Expected to Begin in Fall

City of Falls Church Police Chief Harry Reitze assured the Falls Church City Council at its meeting tonight that a resumption of its "photo red light" operation will begin with a 30-day trial this fall, echoing the frustrations of many due to the need, under new state laws, for VDOT to pre-approve of any intersection included in the operation before any set-up can occur.
