Free CFL Bulbs for First 150 People Attending F.C.'s Hazardous Waste Event Print E-mail
Friday, July 23 2010 12:24:43 PM

The first 150 people to show up at tomorrow morning’s City of Falls Church household hazardous waste event at the F.C. Recycling and Property Yard will receive a free compact fluorescent light bulb, city representatives announced today.

Household hazardous waste will be accepted free of charge. However, the event is open to City of Falls Church residents only. Proof of residency – utility bill, driver’s license or F.C. City vehicle decal – will be required.

Items to bring include acids, antifreeze, bug sprays, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, gasoline, compact or tube fluorescent bulbs, floor care products, fungicides, furniture polish, furniture strippers, herbicides, insecticides, mercury products, motor oil, oil-based paint and stain, oven cleaner, paint thinner, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, rug cleaners and solvent-based glue.

Those interested are reminded to leave items in original containers if possible, and make sure containers are leak-proof. At the event, residents are asked to stay in their vehicles and allow the licensed contractor, Clean Harbors, to remove items.

The waste collection will take place from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, June 24 at the Falls Church Recycling and Property Yard, located at 217 Gordon Road near the intersection of Shreve Road and Broad Street.
