Meat in a Box, a quick service, take out/dine-in Persian restaurant, will be opening mid-June at 312 S. Washington Street.

Several more new restaurants are coming to Falls Church this summer. Flippin Pizza will be opening at 800 W. Broad Street on or around June 1 while Foster's Grill and Mad Fox Brew Pub will be opening in the Spectrum Building. Pizzaria Orzo will open in the Tax Analysts building at 400 S. Maple Avenue later in the summer.

Dr. Raymond Solano of Falls Church-based Solano Spine & Sport Chiropractic has once again been invited to serve on the Sports Medicine Team during the Crocs AVP ProBeach Volleyball Open. The tournament will take place June 18-21 in Ocean City. Solano will provide Chiropractic care and injury prevention to more than 100 professional athletes including Olympians. The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra has hired Christopher Zimmerman as its new music director, its third in its 53 year history. Zimmerman is a native of England with a BA in music from Yale and a Masters from University of Michigan. He studied with Seiji Ozawa and Gunther Schuller at Tanglewood and at the Pierre Monteauz School in Maine. He has held music directorships at the City of London Chamber Orchestra, the Cincinnati Concert Orchestra, the Symphony of Southeast Texas and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. He is currently serving on the conducting faculty of the Hartt School in Hartford, CT. Zimmerman first performance will be at George mason University's Center for the Arts on Sat, Sept 12. Stifel & Capra has been nominated as Top Retailer and Best Guild Store by Niche, the magazine for progressive retailers. The Top Retailer awards recognize the best craft retailers in the US and Canada. Thousands of craft artists, retailers, arts nonprofits and museum stores were polled for nominees. Three local businesses are participating in Falls Church Arts' Gallery without Walls program. Family Medicine in Falls Church and the Falls Church Foot & Ankle Center (104 E. Broad) are displaying watercolors and mixed media by Jan Peterson through July while Burke & Herbert Bank & Trust (220 W. Broad) is displaying cityscapes and landscapes by Denise Philipbar through August. Additionally, Falls Church City Hall is exhibiting more than 30 watercolors by Bill Abel (through October).  Businesses interested in exhibiting art from local artists free of charge through the program can find more information at www.fallschurcharts.org.

The May 26 Falls Church Chamber of Commerce Networking Mixer hosted by Mark Werblood of Tesler & Werblood was postponed due to weather conditions. The Annual Rowell Court Block party will take place Tues, June 2 in the Old Brick House Square townhouse courtyard on the 900 block of W. Broad Street in Falls Church. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance is offering free workshops focused on helping businesses increase sales through state private sector markets. The seminars will help in understanding how to turn leads into sales within private markets and explore other growth and credit issues impacting the ability to grow a business.
