The George Mason High School girls basketball team will be gunning for its second straight Division A state championship at the Siegel Center on the campus of the Virginia Commonweath University Saturday at 3 p.m. The Mustangs (22-2) rallied from a six point deficit with only five minutes left in the fourth quarter, led by sophomore guard Lauren Kane, to upend Chilhowie, 54-42, in their semifinal game Thursday night.

Mason Coach LaBryan Thomas is looking to lead the team to its second straight state title, and two in two years since he took over coaching duties with the team. If successful Saturday, it would mark the third state title, overall, for the Mustang girls. Kane finished with 11 points Thursday, including key buckets in the Mason comeback, while Stephanie Cheney led the Mustangs with 16, Bria Platenburg had 12 and Nicole Mitchell had 11.
