F.C. Artists Paint the Town At last week’s FIRSTfriday event, the Falls Church Arts organization hosted four different art happenings, painting the town from one end of Broad Street to the other. At Bread House, Falls Church resident Irene Chambers exhibited her “Flowers for Spring” collection of oil paintings. Award winning nature photographer, Margaret Buenneke displayed her images at Starbucks. The Broad Street Grill was the site of Dave Curtis’ intriguing paintings. And beautifully unique jewelry designs by Cathy Kaye and Klara Sever were featured at Impulsive in the Broadway. Feel-Good Flapjacks On one Thursday of every month, The Original Pancake House will be donating 15% of sales to a designated local charity or non-profit organization in efforts to give back to the community. On Thursday, April 21 the recipient will be the Carol Jean Cancer Foundation’s Camp Friendship, a summer camp for kids with cancer from Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia. Softball Team Looks for Players The McLean Blaze Girls Fast-pitch Softball teams will have try-outs for their 10-under, 12-under, and 14-under teams on Sunday, April 10 and Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m., at McLean High school softball field. In order to complete the roster, they are currently seeking three girls for each age group who would like to play travel/select softball this spring and summer. Butler, a partner in the Washington, D.C. law office of Howrey, and Linda B. Mercuro of Arlington, who were both elected to three-year terms on the Board of Trustees at Levine School of Music. Bond RBI Carries Carleton Congratulations to Matt Bond, a former resident of Falls Church and graduate of George Mason High School, now playing second base for the Carleton College baseball team. Bond’s run-scoring grounder helped lead the Knights to victory on March 24. PianistPark Taught by Prodigy SejoonPark, a Falls Church resident, attended a piano class April 1 at the Northwest, DC campus of Levine School of Music that was taught by Lang Lang, the 22-year-old piano prodigy. Sejoon performed Etude d’execution transcendante No. 8 “Wild Hunt” by Franz Liszt. He was critiqued and coached by Lang Lang along with two other students during a two-hour program. Roanoke Soccer Looking for Players Sign up for Roanoke Soccer Camps at Roanoke College for Boys. Residential Camp will be held July 24-28, ages 8-17. Team Camp will be held July 29-31. McLean High Hosts Summer Hoopsters The McLean High School Boys Basketball Program will be hosting two sessions of “Highlander Basketball Camp” this summer. Camp will be held at McLean High School, July 18-22 and July 25-29. Camp tuition is $125 per session. Camp times are 8:30 to 2:30, Monday through Friday. Items sold will include used children’s clothing (sizes 0-6x), maternity clothes, baby equipment, toys, videos and books. The sale is held in the Fellowship Hall of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington, Va. Free parking is available and admission is free.
