Byrne Officially Files to Run in June 14 PrimaryFalls Church's Leslie Byrne became the first Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia to officially file for her candidacy with more than 10,000 petition signatures with her submissions yesterday morning in Richmond. Three other persons have announced their intentions to run in the June 14 Democratic Party primary for the party's nomination for lieutenant governor. This Tuesday was the first day that candidates could formally file. Byrne, who served as the first woman in the U.S. Congress from Virginia in history from 1992 to 1994 and also as a state delegate and state senator, filed 13,068 signatures yesterday. As the first to file, her name will appear at the top of the June 14 ballot. Viola Baskerville, Phillip Duckett and Chap Peterson have also announced their intentions to run for the Democratic nomination.
