Mustangs Savor Spring Training in CaliBy Mike Hume The George Mason High School girls lacrosse team emerged from the Sun, Surf and Stix Tournament in San Diego, Calif. last week with a record of 0-3-1, but they still got to go to Disneyland as part of the team’s west-coast spring training stint. The Mustangs tied St. Margaret’s and then endured two one-point losses to Westview (5-4) and Bonita Vista (2-3). Mason lost in the first round to Bishop’s School 6-4. Mary Kate Cummings was selected to the All-Tournament team for the Mustangs. While the games provided an opportunity for the team to get some practice in while the East Coast endured a soggy string of weather, the games will not count towards the team’s overall record. Prior to heading to sunny San Diego the girls varsity was in top form against Washington and Lee, winning 9-2. Cummings recorded a hat trick, while Jane Nystrom, Emily Bowditch, Emily Walden, Katie Mitchell, Christie Ankeney and Kristin Schwind each scored single goals. Lena Griffin, Meghan Mondragon, Adina Pollack, Kaity Hauter, Emma O’Hara and Lauren Lauderdale led the defensive effort. Lauren Moore recorded eight saves in goal. The Mustangs next travel to face Lee High School Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
