The Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department 9-10 boys and girls played their All-Star Game on the hardwood at MCI Center before the Washington Wizard vs Golden State game on March 4.

Arlington Soccer Signups Announced

The Arlington Soccer Association is beginning registration for the spring youth recreational soccer season for Falls Church and Arlington. Games for boys and girls ages 7 and above begin Saturday, April 9 and games for boys and girls ages under 7 begin Saturday, April 16. Moyer Earns Honor

Congratulations to Jennifer Moyer who was honored on the Dean’s List for her outstanding academic achievement for the fall 2004 semester by the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University.

Seeds Sewed for Plant Swap

 The First Annual Backyard Gardeners Plant Swap & Sale will take place April 30 at Ticonderoga Farms in Chantilly, Virginia. The event offers door prizes, free plants being swapped, and a variety of local vendors. The Clean Earth Foundation will offer drinks and lunch for sale, with all proceeds to benefit the Foundation. Ressa Joins CORDEV

Congratulations to John J. Ressa who will join the firm of CORDEV Inc. as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Ressa will oversee the business operations and federal and industry contracts for CORDEV, a leading provider of telecommunications and information technology solutions.

F.C.-McLean Children’s Center Awarded Grant

The Falls Church-McLean Children’s Center has been awarded a grant of $5,000 by The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation. The grant to the Falls Church-McLean Children’s Center will help fund the school’s Successful Start Program- a comprehensive, high quality early childhood education program to enhance the ability of young and at-risk children from low and moderate income backgrounds to enter school with age appropriate skills.

Fairfax Firefighters Honor Two

 Congratulations to Charlie Colello, Jr. and Chris Henderson of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department who were recognized for their quick and heroic actions. On Friday, March 18, they were recognized for saving the life of a four-year-old child who was removed from the Terrence Town Homes Community Pool.

Yoga Classes Offered

From March 31 through April 28, 2005, Sahaja Yoga International will host a series of 60-minute workshops on meditation every Thursday from 7:15-8:15 p.m. The first session will include an introduction to Sahaja Yoga, the experience of self-realization and a relaxing Indian Classical Vocal Performance. Developer Honored as Volunteer

Waterford Development President and CEO Mr. Jan A. Zachariasse was recently named 2005 Outstanding Adult Volunteer by the YMCA of Loudoun County for his notable contributions and efforts to help the local branch expand.

Local Author Releases Latest Work

Michael Paul Ladanyi and Christine E. Laine have released their new chapbook, Suburban Fairy Tales of Brilliant Ash and Bright Blue Sins. Both are poets twice-nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. Laine, a resident of Falls Church, is the editor of Little Poem Press.

Bob Fatovic has established an architectural and planning consulting practice in Falls Church. Fatovic offers consulting services to owners, professionals and contractors at the municipal, collegiate and professional level.

Blood Drive at Beech Tree

Beech Tree Elementary School PTA will hold a Blood Drive for Denise Boyd Jenkins who is awaiting a liver transplant. McCulla Honored for Vaunted Vocal Efforts

Congratulations to Nora McCulla, an Earlham College first-year and former resident of Falls Church, who performed March 17-21 in Earlham’s Gospel Revelations Second East Coast Choir Tour. The choir also performed in Baltimore, Md., Washington D.C. and New York.

Circus Raises Money for Charity

Wednesday, March 23, NIH Charities and Easter Seals partnered to treat hundreds of children in the Washington, D.C. Metro area to a premier night at the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus. Both organizations reserved all available tickets for underprivileged children and their families.
