Mason Boys Rally Past Rapp By Mike Hume
It started as a close contest, it ended as an exhibition.
The George Mason High School boys basketball team closed out its home schedule with an emphatic 68-42 win over Rappahannock on Senior Night for the Mustangs.
The Panthers kept the game close for three quarters and in fact led 36-34 late in the third, but the Mustangs pulled away on an 18-0 run to close out the quarter and begin the final frame. Eight of the points during that span belonged to junior Travis Greene, including an impressive one-handed jam.
The game was the final home game for the team’s seniors including Josiah Larson, Will Straub, Stephen Williams, Sean Dawson, Colin Molano and Robert Kuhn.
The Mustangs face Word of Life Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in a non-district contest to close out the regular season. Mason starts its post-season schedule against Strasburg on Monday. Mason fell in both regular-season games against Strasburg, but by fewer than seven points both times.
