Jody's Jam of the Week
Laurel Park Horse Racing
By Jody FellowsYou remember that movie from the ‘80s starring Bobcat Goldwait and had John Candy as the voice of a talking horse? “Seabiscuit,” you say? Close. Actually, I’m talking about the cinema classic, “Hot to Trot.” See, that’s what I think of when someone mentions horse racing. However, I was recently informed that’s not how things go down at the track. So, with cash in hand, I’m headed to Laurel Park for live thoroughbred (I’m told that means horse) racing. Wednesdays through Sundays, in addition to the real live races at the track, races from around the country are simulcast daily. They have a clubhouse, grandstand and a “Clockers Corner Simulcast Theatre” that broadcasts all the races. But the real action is down at the rail, where you can get so close, you can smell it. Yeaaahh, now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. So, chalk up another vice, it looks like I might of found a new hobby. When: Wednesdays-Thursdays; races start at 12:30 p.m. Where: Route 198 & Racetrack Rd, Laurel, MD 20724 For more information, visit www.laurelpark.com |
