The Kirov Opera and Orchestra perform
Modest Mussorgsky's
“Boris Godunov”
Kennedy Center
Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
True basses get the raw end of the deal in opera. The tenor always gets the girl and the bass is always the villain. Why is that? An exception is Mussorgsky's powerful 1869 opera about the great Russian czar Boris Godunov, which has always been a showcase for some of the opera world's greatest true bass performers, the likes of the legendary Cesare Siepe.
This opera is a moving experience, and this weekend is a rare opportunity to see it performed by a Russian company, bound to capture its true essence. Tickets are still on sale for all three performances. Check the Kennedy Center website, www.kennedy-center.org. It will help you tap into your lower registers with newfound pride.
