Jody's Jam of the Week

The Inauguration and Various Democratic Events
By Jody Fellows

Left or right? Red or blue? Dem or Repub? No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, there’s an excuse to party this Thursday. The Inaugural Ceremony begins at noon on Thursday at the Capitol but unless you have a ticket, good luck getting a peek. However, the following parade down Pennsylvania Ave. at 2 p.m. is open to all, but it helps if you’re really, really tall. Then, what reads like a college football Bowl list, are the balls. The Constitution, Democracy, Freedom, Independence, Liberty, Patriot, Stars & Stripes, and Texas Wyoming are the “official” balls, but there are also many on the unofficial tip. And for those who voted for the other guy, there’s no reason to stay at home weeping. The Americans for Democratic Action Counter-Inaugural Gala will be rockin’ at the Washington Court Hotel, while Noise Against Facisim featuring Andrew W.K. will be bringing down the house downtown at Black Cat on 14th St. The clubs will also be getting into it with Dream hosting a ReDefeatBush Counterinagural Ball and Platinum having their parodic Billionaires for Bush Re-Coronation. And if you just want everyone to place nice, then your best bet is the Inaugural/Anti-Inaugural Unity Bash at MCCXXIII. So, if your boy is still chillin’ at 1600 or if he lost this past November, you’ve still got a reason to party in D.C. That is, of course, if you haven’t moved to Canada.
