Sonics at Wizards MCI Center 7th and F Streets Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, 7 p.m.

The Wizards are looking very good, but they're running afoul of the biggest surprise in the NBA this season, the amazing Seattle Sonics, who did no less than end Miami (and Shaq's) 15 game winning streak on the road, no less, in Miami, Monday night. Most surprising about the Sonics is the fact it's basically the same team as last year's under-50% club, minus a couple good players (like Bret Barry). But Ray Allen is healthy and his teammates respect their go-to guy and the design their offense accordingly. The other main change: The Mop. Diminutive point guard Luke Ridnour, although the floppy hair is scaled back, is now at the helm and setting the tone for the total team effort. On the Wizards' side, the team effort is a treat, too. Ought to be a heck of a game.
