Former Falls Church Resident Gertrude Ermerins, 90, Dies

Gertrude Mallon Ermerins, 90, a longtime resident of the City of Falls Church, lately of Springfield, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2004, following complications from a fall.

A native of Washington, DC, Mrs. Ermerins came to Falls Church in 1952 with her husband and four sons. A fifth son was born shortly thereafter. All sons were educated in City of Falls Church schools. Mrs. Ermerins was an enthusiastic supporter of the City, its educational system and its generous services.

She was a beloved wife, mother and friend.

Mrs. Ermerins was born on December 16, 1914, in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Thomas S. and Mary Davenport Mallon. She was a life-long devoted wife and mother. Her husband of 68 years, Jack F. Ermerins, and four sons, John, James, Paul and William Ermerins survive her. Another son, Robert, who died in 1996, preceded her in death. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ermerins and her husband, Jack, moved to Greenspring Village Retirement Community in October 2003 after 51 years in the Falls Church home.

A memorial service was Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. Officiating was Reverend William Reynolds of Greenspring Village Retirement Community.
