Madison H.S. – 52, Marshall H.S. – 0

A two-win improvement over last season’s record ought to be consolation for an overmatched Marshall squad in this season finale in exceptionally muddy conditions. Freshman Chris Hurlburt led the team with 12 rushing yards against a Madison defense that held the Statesmen under 50 yards of total offense for the game.

Marshall finished the season with a 2-8 record overall, and 0-7 in the Liberty District. Madison wraps up the season with a record of 5-5 overall, 3-4 in the district. Junior quarterback Stephen Gooding finished second in the district in completions with 63 in 143 attempts. The also added three touchdown passes on the season. Senior wide out Steve Friend finished third in receptions with 21 for 313 yards and two touchdowns.

Langley H.S. – 35, McLean H.S. – 23

Senior quarterback J.D. Oldenburg completed 19 of 37 pass attempts for 191 yards and a touchdown, but also tossed two interceptions in the Highlanders’ season-ending loss to rival Langley. Junior receiver Brendan Griffin posted a team-high 88 yards receiving including a touchdown, while senior running back William Corey carried the ball 19 times for 115 yards and a score. Juniors Thomas Haffey and Neal Gillies each had four receptions for 45 and 34 yards respectively.

Despite the loss, the season has been a very successful inaugural season for McLean Head Coach Rick Rivera. Last season the Highlanders managed only one victory. This season McLean finished with a record of 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the Liberty Conference. Langley finished with a record of 6-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference, good for second to W.T. Woodson (9-1, 6-1). Statistically, Oldenburg ended the season leading the Liberty District in every major category, including completions, yards, touchdowns and passer rating. Meanwhile, Bill Corey finished sixth among Liberty rushers with 851 yards. He also added six touchdowns. McLean also had three of the top four receivers this season, with Haffey (35 receptions, 358 yards, 2 TDs), Griffin (34 receptions, 431 yards, 2 TDs) and Gillies (15 receptions, 184 yards).
