Falls Church H.S. – 43, Washington and Lee –10
Falls Church stood strong behind the stellar performance of Junior linebacker Tony Collins who scored a touchdown off a fumble recovery, seven tackles, and added a sack which led to a touchdown for the Jags.
The defense smothered the generals on the ground and in the air as the Jags defense grouped up for four sacks. In the secondary Sahr Jalloh and Eric Bruyette each recorded an interception as they stymied the passing game.
On the offensive side of the ball the Jaguars were once again led by the hard nosed running of senior Eddie Robinson who compiled 164 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and another 46 yards receiving for an even 200 total yards.
Junior quarterback Joey Collins also had a strong day. He was five for 11, passing for 116 yards and a touchdown without an interception.
Recevier RJ Davis was his primary target catching three passes for 65 yards and a score.
Falls Church faces J.E.B. Stuart next week at Stuart, starting at 7:30 p.m.
W.T. Woodson H.S. – 42, McLean H.S. – 0
Coming off a tough win against Lee High School the Highlanders faced a hot W.T. Woodson, on a three game winning streak.
Despite their best efforts, led by the solid running of senior William Corey who tallied 71 yards on 16 attempts, they were unable to break the goal line against the stingy Cavalier defense.
The Highlanders were overwhelmed by the impressive running game of Woodson senior Matt Nickerson. With 29 carries Nickerson totaled 229 yards and three touchdowns. The four game winning streak gives Woodson a 8-1 record going into next week’s game against South Lakes and drops the Mclean team to 5-4.
On Friday the Highlanders will try to stay above .500 in it’s game against Langley at 7:30 p.m.
South Lakes H.S. – 42, Marshall H.S. – 10
Marshall hoped coming into the game against South Lakes that they could take advantage of a struggling Seahawks offense that has put up less than 20 points in seven of their eight contests this year.
To win it was critical that they bolster their defense which has had difficulty holding the line against their opponents. The Statesmen have held only one team to under 20 points this entire season and last week faced a bruising performance from W.T. Woodson running back Matt Nickerson, who put up 259 yards with four touchdowns.
Marshall started the game impressively, keeping the game tight through the first half. Going into the break the game seemed up in the air, but a rally by the South Lake offense, scoring 22 points in the third quarter put the game out of reach and gave the Seahawks their second win of the season.
The Statesmen face Madison Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.
Stuart H.S. – 30, Wakefield H.S. – 6
In the battle for the Bailey’s Crossroads Bowl J.E.B. Stuart was able to overpower opponent Wakefield H.S. and tally its first win of the season.
Todd Osborne carried the Raiders offense racking up 194 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
Stuart will try to build on last week’s success with its game at Falls Church High School this Friday starting at 7:30 p.m. |
