Former F.C. Attorney & Resident Edward Hautanen Dies


Former Falls Church City attorney and Falls Church resident Edward W. Hautanen, 80, died October 29, 2004 in Sarasota, FL. He was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Mass City, Mich., and came to Sarasota in 1986 from Falls Church. He retired as an attorney for the Federal Communications Commission Opinions and Review Office in Washington, D.C. He received a law degree from Duke University. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the holder of a Phi Beta Kappa key and Order of the Coif a member of Friends of Finland of Sarasota, and St. Thomas More Parish in Sarasota.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary; a daughter, Jane of Washington, D.C.; a twin sister, Marjorie Decker of Warren, Mich., and sisters Mary Cummins of Chandler, Arizona, Elizabeth Steinwand of Rhinelander, Wis., and Ellen Franks of Tamarac, FL. A memorial service will be later at St. Thomas More Church in Sarasota.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite animal or conservation society; or to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
