Former Falls Church Resident Lillian Fishbein Dies at Age 90
Lillian Fishbein Binder Brickman, 90, formerly of Falls Church, died recently at the Home for Jewish Parents in Danville, Calif. The cause of death was Alzheimer's Disease. Known for her striking red hair, Ms. Brickman was born Dec. 11, 1913, in New York City. She married Israel Binder in 1939 and with him ran a pharmacy in Queens, New York until his death in 1950. They had three children, Judith, David and Laura. In 1953, she married Hilliard Brickman, co-owner of Ware's Pharmacy in East Falls Church and lived in Falls Church 33 years. A daughter, Robin, was born in 1954, and all of Ms. Brickman's children attended George Mason High School in Falls Church. Following Mr. Brickman's death in 1968, she continued to live her life to the fullest into her late 80s. At age 63, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history at George Washington University. She was co-owner of Miller's Pharmacy in Arlington and traveled extensively through her 70s. In 1985, she moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., where she continued traveling, hiking, tutoring at-risk children, learning to read and write Yiddish, and learning to perform with marionettes. Besides her four children, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, ranging in age from 11 to 39. They are Carla-Jean, Baron-Charles, Zipora, Hilary, Anna-Eileen, Sam, Tyler, Haley, Jared and Caleb. She is also survived by three older siblings, Frank Fishbein, Meyer Fishbein and Sarah Blau, and three generations of nieces and nephews.
