By Mike Hume The George Mason High School girls cross country team turned in the best performance among Single A schools and eighth overall at its weekend meet at Albemarle.

Susanna and Sarah Sullivan led the team with personal best times of 21:11 and 21:20 to finished 35th and 37th individually. Adding to the strong team finish were Agnes Ek (21:57 good for 58th place), Emma Goetz (22:18, 74th), Nikki Williamson (22:41), Emily Walden (22:41) and Kaity Hauter (24:15).

“The competition was tough, but the girls looked awesome,” Head Coach Julie Bravin said.

The boys team met with the challenge of racing without four of their top runners who missed the meet in order to take the SATs. However, Josh Jenkins and Bryan Collins turned in strong performances, both finishing in 19:31. Steven Newhall was third for Mason in a time of 20:15.
