This week, New York, New York Bette Midler and 'Crying Men'!

By Nicholas F. Benton

OK, dear reader, remember my counsel that you must think of Falls Church as a suburb of New York. Life becomes more fun that way. This weekend, there's a unique chance to catch Bette Midler at the Radio City Music Hall. She's back in the same town where she got her start singing in the bathhouses 30 years ago. Then, Sam Taylor-Wood's photo exhibit, "Sorrow, Suspension, Ascension," is at the Matthew Marks Gallery (523 W. 24th Street) through Oct. 30. It includes a provocative 28 images of "Crying Men," including shots of famous actors like Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Hayden Christensen. Sorry, the Yankee-Bosox series will be out of town, however.
