JEB Stuart Falls Just Short of Win #1

By Mike Hume

W&L H.S. – 15, Stuart H.S. – 13

J.E.B. Stuart came close, but ultimately fell two points shy of its first win of the season in its homecoming game against Washington and Lee.

Senior quarterback Dionte Beatty completed five of 11 passes and rushed for one of Stuart’s two touchdowns. Running back Ricarrio Logan accounted for the other Raiders’ score and scampered for 73 yards on 13 carries. Despite the loss, the Raiders snapped a three-game shutout streak. Stuart’s record falls to 0-4 as the team prepares for another home game

Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Thomas Jefferson.

Madison H.S. – 19, McLean H.S. – 0

The Highlanders were shutout for the first time this season en route to their second loss in as many games. The Warhawks improve to 3-1, while McLean slips to 2-2. McLean next faces Marshall on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Jefferson H.S. – 10, Falls Church H.S. – 0

The Jaguars (1-3) couldn’t get on the scoreboard and ended up falling in a close contest last Friday. Jefferson managed to limit the Jags’ explosive running back Eddie Robinson to just 41 yards on 16 carries, and while quarterback James Gannon completed 21 of 32 passes, the Jefferson defense never broke.

Receiver R.J. Davis led Falls Church with 12 receptions for 69 yards, while Sahr Jalloh caught four balls for 48 yards. Defensively, Jalloh and Kevin Neismith kept Falls Church’s hopes alive with an interception each. The Jags square off against Oakton at home. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.

Langley H.S. – 44, Marshall H.S. – 0

The Langley Saxons emphatically ended the Statesmen’s winning streak at two games with a 44-point victory last week. Quarterback Stephen Gooding went six of 21 for 67 yards, while running back Brandon Wallace added 42 yards on 12 carries. Steve Friend had two catches for 29 yards.

While Marshall couldn’t contain Langley’s running game (the Saxons’ Trevor Bacon amassed a career-high 265 yards and four touchdowns), the Statesmen picked off a Langley pass and totaled six sacks. Marshall (2-2) faces McLean this Friday in its Homecoming game. The two clash at 7:30 p.m.
