GMHS Runners Take Part in AA Meet

Girls place 5th, while boys place 7th in tough competition

The George Mason High School cross country teams raced in the larger AA division last Saturday with the girls team placing fifth overall while the boys team captured a seventh place finish.

Freshman Susanna Sullivan led the girls with a medal-winning 15th place individual finish in a time of 22:53. The remaining group of Sarah Sullivan, Emma Goetz, Agnes Ek, Emily Walden, Kaity Hauter and Jessie Porzel earned points with 21st, 24th, 27th, and 29th place finishes.

John Sullivan paced the boys team finished 11th individually to earn a medal with a time of 18:21. Jon Byers placed 18th in 18:40, followed by Chad O’Hara in 34th place. Alex Nette, Bryan Collins, Steven Newhall and Josh Jenkins finished 40-43.

In the JV race, eighth grader Maggie Fortenberry won the race with a time of 22:30, almost a full minute ahead of the second-place finisher. Taylor Moot finished fourth at 23:36, while Katie Bugg placed 11th. The girls were the top Class A finishers in the race and all earned medals.
