GMHS Golfers Win at Clarke County By Dan McDonaldThe George Mason golf team continued its winning ways on Tuesday, capturing two victories with their best team effort to date.
The Mustangs departed shortly after completing their first day of school, arriving at Virginia National to challenge the Clarke County Eagles and the AA Middlebrook Pioneers in their first September match. Competing for the first time this season at Clarke’s home course, the Mustangs’ combined score of 167 is their lowest total to date. It was enough to beat the Eagles by 26 strokes and the Pioneers by 11.
Senior Andy Walsh led the way with a three-over 39, followed by senior Dan McDonald and junior Paul Mene with scores of 42. Sophomore Ben Lasso rounded out the top four with a 44, but the success did not stop there. Sophomores Andy Pribulka and Sean Follin shot 47 and 49, respectively, marking the first time both finished with fewer than 50 strokes.
This showing bodes well for the team, as the District Tournament will be held at Virginia National later this month.
