Mustang Golfers Swing Into Action, Start 3-0

On August 5, 2204, the GM Golf Team began its season with a win in its first match, shooting 367 to Strasburg’s 375. The team, who is coached by Dan Wilkie, played on its home course, Fairfax National Golf Course.
Senior, Dan McDonald shot 94; senior Andy Walsh and junior Paul Mene, each shot 92, with sophomores Ben Lasso, Andy Pribulka, and Sean Follin shooting 89, l08, and l0l respectively. Freshman Imran Jaffer is the newest member to join the team. Coach Wilkie noted that all the returning team members had improved their golf game since last year, and that Strasburg is one of the toughest competitors in the district.
Mason was victorious in its second match last Thursday, Aug. 12, defeating Clarke County 181 to 189. The match was held at George Mason's Home Course, Fairfax National, and had been shortened to nine holes. Andy Walsh was low scorer for Mason with a 42, Ben Lasso shot 45, Dan McDonald 46, Paul Mene 48, Sean Follin 50 and Andrew Pribulka 55. Each team fielded six golfers for the match and the lowest four scores counted towards the victory.
Mason then faced Manasas Park High School at General's Ridge Golf Club. Dan McDonald was low scorer for Mason with an 18-hole total of 83, followed by Andy Walsh at 86, Paul Mene and Ben Lasso with 88, Andrew Pribulka 105 and Sean Follin 108. Mason won the match with a total 56 strokes fewer than Manasas Park. The win raised the varsity golf team's record to three wins and no losses.
George Mason Coach Dan Wilkie has his team practicing hard and has been using the equipment purchased with the support of the George Mason Athletic Boosters. Mason hosts Madison County at Fairfax National Golf Course on today at 1 p.m.
