Mustangs Fare Well at States

While none of the three George Mason High School track runners brought home a state championship this past weekend, Niles Lashway placed third in the 300M hurdles and John Sullivan finished seventh in the 3200M, both earning All-State honors. Louisa Fairfax, the lone female entrant from Mason, finished 10th in the 3200M.
Lashway, who captured first place in the 300M hurdles at the Region B meet, finished his event in 41.23 seconds, shy of the event winner by less than half a second.
“Niles is an extremely strong runner,” Head Track Coach Julie Bravin said. “He ran an amazing race. We’re so proud of him and all his accomplishments this year.”
In the Boys 3200M, Sullivan finished with a time of 10:33.01, well back of first place finished Simon Biddle-snead of Clarke County (9:58:57) but still good enough to be named to the All-State Team. The top eight finishers in each event, earn All-State recognition.
“John improved steadily throughout the season and it all came together at States where he ran an outstanding race,” Bravin said. “Earning All-State his first year of track is amazing.”
Fairfax rebounded from an injury sustained during the year and rallied for her strong performance in States.
“Louisa ran a smart race and in the last two laps passed a lot of competitors,” Bravin said. “Seeing her finish 10th after coming back from injury was a great way to end the season.”
“It’s sad to think that this was Niles’ and Louisa’s last race for Mason,” Bravin added. “They’ll be greatly missed.”
