4 F.C. Students of 20 Admin Interns Graduate from LEAD Fairfax Program
Twenty administrative interns celebrated the completion of their year-long internships as part of the Learning, Empowering, Assessing, and Developing (LEAD) Fairfax program at last Friday at the Westmore Center.

LEAD Fairfax is a Fairfax County Public Schools program designed to attract, develop, and support the next generation of educational leaders in the school system. The program was established in response to a study revealing that up to 70 percent of the school system's current leadership may need to be replaced by the 2006-07 school year.

Among the 20 interns who will complete their program on June 11, are the following Falls Church students: Heather Cox from Jackson Middle School; Regina Nash of Marshall High School; Timothy Paper of Westgate Elementary School; and D. Kim Price from Lemon Road Elementary School.

To date, approximately 80 percent of former LEAD Fairfax administrative interns have assumed leadership positions within FCPS, including three principalships, 45 assistant principalships, and four specialist positions.

Nearly 1,900 FCPS employees-including administrators, cluster directors, principals, assistant principals, teachers, and support employees-have participated in LEAD Fairfax since it began in January 2002. The program has expanded to include three community cohorts-the Fairfax County Hispanic Leadership Alliance, the Hughes Middle School-Reston Community Cohort, and the Westlawn Elementary School Leadership Cohort.

The program is funded by a renewable grant by the Wallace Foundation and is held in partnership with the Gallup Organization, the Center for Creative Leadership, the Institute for Educational Leadership, Linkage Incorporated, Global Learning Associates, the Association for Supervision Curriculum and Development, Stand By Systems, CaseNEX, Aha! Process, and Knowledge Management.
