GMHS's Softball's Season Ends

By Mike Hume

The George Mason softball team concluded its season Tuesday with a 16-3 loss at Strasburg. The loss concludes a 1-15 season in what has been a rebuilding year for the Mustangs. Mason failed to win a single district game this season, coming close on several occasions, but ultimately falling short.

In the loss to Strasburg, defensive breakdowns led to two costly big innings for the Rams, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Perri Cazan recorded a season-high six strikeouts and Head Coach Carlyn Kuder sited the strong defensive play at first base by Natalie Krachman.

A single in the fifth by Kelly Chrsico started the Mason scoring rally. Casey Smirniotopoulos and Karyn Graham followed with hits and an RBI on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Bridget Hatfield accounted for the Mustangs’ final run.

“All in all I am proud at how we went out every day, played hard and never quit,” Kuder said. “I feel very good about what the future holds for Mason softball.”
