Following a pair of wins for both the girls’ and boys’ teams, the Mustangs are red hot.
Saturday the Lady Mustangs avenged a pre-season loss to the Washington and Lee Generals with a convincing 7-4 win.
Sophomore Kristin Schwind had a hat trick, while sophomore Emily Walden netted two goals. Sophomores Christie Ankeney and Emily Bowditch tallied single goals.
Sophomore goalie Lauren Moore also earned high praise.
“Lauren has never been as aggressive in goal,” Coach Barb Mahony said.
The Mason girls beat the Generals again Tuesday, 6-5. Schwind and Walden had two goals each, while senior Katie Bottock and freshman Katie Mitchell scored one apiece. Moore added seven saves.
The Mustang boys were equally hot this week, with two lopsided wins, Saturday against C.D. Hylton 11-1, and 9-2 over Washington and Lee Tuesday.
Senior Jack Lawlor led the effort Saturday with five goals, while Senior Brian Stenger added two. Seniors Tommy Pyne, Phil Blush, John Falkey, junior Steve Williams and sophomore Scott Lemen scored one goal apiece. Seniors Zach Barrett and Matt Peetz combined for eight saves.
On Tuesday, Pyne’s hat trick headed the offensive effort with Lawlor (2 goals), Williams, Stenger, junior Andy Walsh and senior Adam Dittmer (one goal each) chipping in as well.
