Mason Romps Over Manassas Park, 6-0

For 80 minutes the George Mason High School boys soccer team out-worked, out-hustled, out-positioned, out-shot and ultimately out-scored Manassas Park en route to a 6-0 drubbing of their district foe.

The Mustangs controlled the first half, but could only muster one goal from junior Ariel Toom to show for their efforts.

“We didn’t play to the conditions in the first half and that was frustrating,” GMHS Head Coach Arthur Iwanicki said. “But we played hard and found a way.”

The second half told a different tale however, as the Mustangs unleashed a torrent of 5 goals, including two from senior Brian O’Connor. O’Connor and junior Peter Dittmar each floated in goals from well beyond 30 meters. Sophomore Gregg Curtin added another Mustang goal, heading in a corner kick cross from sophomore Mike Chaves, who closed out the scoring on a penalty kick with 11:13 remaining.

Senior goalie Alex Fatovic recorded six saves to get the shutout.
