Donna Coe Named Teacher Of The Year By Virginia Council Of Mathematics: Donna Coe, a Title I math resource teacher at Timber Lane Elementary School, has been awarded the William C. Lowry Teacher of the Year Award by the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Timber Lane Elementary School is a Fairfax County public school.
Coe has worked for Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) since 1985 as both a classroom teacher and a Title I math lead teacher. Prior to joining FCPS, Coe worked as a classroom teacher and as a gifted and talented resource teacher. She is the coauthor of several articles, including “Whole Language Discovery Activities for the Primary Grades.” Coe has also served as a member of Virginia Governor Mark Warner’s Partnership for Achieving Successful Schools (PASS) initiative, working on math projects with a Portsmouth elementary school.

A graduate of Mary Washington College, Coe earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia.

Draeger To Host Live Online Discussion: Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Interim Superintendent Brad S. Draeger will host his first discussion forum on Live Online at www.washingtonpost.com on Thursday, April 22, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Draeger will be available on April 22 to discuss the issues affecting Fairfax County Public Schools, including the FY 2005 budget, the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), and other challenges facing the school system.

The interactive online forum offers an opportunity for parents, area residents, educators, and journalists to engage in an interactive dialogue with Draeger. Questions may be submitted in advance at www.washingtonpost.com.

The Falls Church High School Japan Bowl Team: (Level 4 Japanese category) won the third place in the National Japan Bowl academic contest in Washington D.C. on April 4, 2004. FCHS Japan Bowl Level 4 Team, consisted of Julianne Rosas and John Haumann, represented the Greater Washington Region (Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC). The GWR is one of the eight Japan Bowl regions in the US. At the national, our students had great opportunities to meet with students from other parts of the US and were invited to the reception at the official residence of the Japanese Ambassador to the United States.
