Greater Falls Church School Bulletin Board


The Dranesville Elementary PTA will hold its annual silent and live auction from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 12, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Herndon. Using the theme “Around the World in 80 Days,” grade-level theme baskets based on the seven continents will be up for bid. Included will be tickets to theatrical performances and to professional sports events, restaurant gift certificates, tax return preparation, Tupperware and Mary Kay Cosmetics products, and passes for museums, movies, skiing, and rafting. All proceeds will benefit the school.

Madison High will host two performances by U.S. Navy band musicians. The Navy Band Commodores will perform as the headline group for the annual Madison-McLean Jazz Night on Friday, March 12. Jazz Night will also feature performances by Madison and McLean High jazz ensembles, as well as by a group from neighboring Washington-Lee High in Arlington. The high school performances will begin at 5 p.m., and the Commodores will begin at 8 p.m. On Saturday, March 13, Madison will host the U.S. Navy Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. The concerts will take place in the Madison High auditorium, 2500 James Madison Drive, Vienna, and are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to support the Madison High band program.

The Scooby Doo moon bounce, crafts for sale, and a silent auction will be at the Chesterbrook Elementary Hawaiian Beach Blast on Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Games include blitz, crazy hat, duck pond, fat cats, lobster box, troll bridge, and zoo dip. Chesterbrook teachers will be available to have their pockets picked by students; a cake walk and a basket raffle will also be featured. Adults can shop for ceramics, jewelry, decorative boxes, and photographs from vendors. Admission is free; food will be available for sale. Chesterbrook Elementary School is located at 1753 Kirby Rd. in McLean.

Fifteen special interest clubs are attracting from 6 to 60 students each at Shrevewood Elementary. The after-school clubs are held once a month on Fridays; students are encouraged to choose the club that interests them the most. The clubs focus on chess, soccer, cooking, drama, card games, dance, splash rockets, school newspaper writing, moviemaking, computer repair, the school character kids initiative, better spoken English, arts and crafts, camping, and first aid.
