George Mason Hosts Final Home Meet This Saturday


Continuing their great season, the George Mason High School grapplers take to the mats for the final time at home this Saturday, February 7. when they host the George Mason Duals. The ‘Stangs will go up against group AAA McLean, Yorktown and Parkview High Schools as well as Northumberland and Fauquier High Sschools. The match starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

Last Saturday, January 31, the Mustang Wrestlers competed in the huge 12-team Henrico Duals in Richmond, Va. Mason wrestled four dual matches against Group AAA schools Clover Hill, Benedictine, L. C. Bird, and Henrico.

In the first match, the Mustangs beat Clover Hill 45-36, losing only three individual bouts. They followed up the morning win by dominating Benedictine 57-24, only losing two individual bouts. Mason earned a third consecutive win of the day, taking down L.C. Bird by a score of 39-27.

In the final match, the Mustangs were defeated by their central region powerhouse host, Henrico, 49-21.

Individually, the team was led by senior Colin Ehmer and sophomore Willie Hoover who split matches at 140 lbs. and 145 lbs. and both won all four matches. Senior Mac Cohe (171 lbs.) and junior John Sullivan (160 lbs.) both won three matches with two pins and senior Andrew Hipolit (189 lbs.) and sophomore Nick Pitas (112 lbs.) both won three matches with one pin. Senior Mike Cummings (152 lbs.) and sophomore Mike Coleman (125 lbs.) both won two matches with 1 and 2 pins respectively. Senior Zach Schwind (152 lbs.) won a match by pin and sophomores Tashdid Kahn (130 lbs.) and Trevor Quillin (135 lbs.) and freshman Jesse Lennon (130 lbs.) also won matches. Kristin Schwind also wrestled three matches for the Mustangs.
