Memorial Marks Muller Death

By Nicholas F. Benton (nfbenton@fcnp.com)

A memorial service will be held next Wednesday, Feb. 4, in London, England's Victoria Park at the site where, exactly one year ago, former City of Falls Church resident and emerging artistic talent Margaret Muller was slain. Muller, 27, was killed by a knife attack from a still at-large assailant while jogging in the park a year ago.

The memorial service will be held between the park's rose garden and children's playground, exactly where Ms. Muller was attacked at 8:30 a.m. Members of Muller's family will be present at the service. Plans are also underway to rename the park's running pavilion community room in Muller's memory and for a tree planting ceremony to be carried out by park wardens and a noted BBC official who was near the crime, also jogging, when it occurred and assisted officers with the investigation.

Meanwhile, London detectives will be circulating fliers in the park in an appeal for information that could lead to the apprehension of the murderer. Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Shatford, who is leading the investigation, said, "A year after Margaret was brutally attacked in Victoria Park, we are still working relentlessly to catch the person responsible for her murder. A dedicated team of officers remain committed to the case and their numbers have been boosted by extra staff to ensure that no stone is left unturned." A reward of 15,000 pounds sterling is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of Muller.

Muller, a 1993 graduate of George Mason High School in Falls Church, was in London pursuing a highly-promising career as an artist at the time of her death.
